JNU issues advisory asking students, faculty to stay away from Jantar Mantar protests

New Delhi: After IIT Roorkee and Delhi University, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has issued an advisory asking students, faculty and staff to stay away from protests at Jantar Mantar and act responsibly on social media.
In the advisory, JNU said members of the campus community should prioritise their personal safety and avoid participating in or visiting gatherings at or around Jantar Mantar, citing Supreme Court directions on public demonstrations. The university also warned that violations of applicable laws could lead to legal consequences as well as disciplinary action under its code of conduct.
JNU urged students and staff to uphold academic responsibility and responsible citizenship, and said several other institutions had issued similar advisories in recent days due to safety concerns and court directions.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi criticised Delhi University over its earlier advisory, accusing it of threatening students for exercising their democratic rights. Sharing DU’s post on social media, Gandhi asked how the university could threaten students for taking part in protests and said those responsible would be held accountable.
