Indian army thwarts infiltration attempt in Uri, Pak terrorists aimed at G20 event
text_fieldsJammu: Indian Army on Saturday prevented an infiltration attempt by terrorists along the Line of Control in Uri. Officials said that the operation was supported by Pakistan with the goal of disrupting the G20 summit.
"This desperate action by the terrorists, duly abetted by the Pakistan army, is yet another failed attempt to disrupt the G20 Summit and create disturbance in the Valley," said a defence spokesperson. "A quadcopter flown by the Pakistan army to aid the terrorists was also spotted across the Line of Control. The quadcopter was withdrawn after it was fired at by the soldiers of the Indian Army," he added. Officials think the use of quadcopter is linked to the assistance provided by the Pakistan Army.
According to sources, a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) was injured in the exchange of firing, reported NDTV.
The spokesperson also said that the group of armed terrorists engaged in an exchange of fire with the troops while they attempted to cross the LoC. They failed to intrude into the Kashmir Valley and a massive search operation is underway in the densely vegetated area.
Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh on Thursday ordered strict monitoring of activities of all elements in the region. "Reasi district is a sensitive place as it connects with the border district of Rajouri as well as to the Valley. There may be attempts of crossover and as such, all the forces should work in unison," he said. He also asked officers to be vigilant on all fronts and keep track of the movements of anti-national elements.
