Prayagraj: The country will be strong if Sanatan dharma is strong only when Santan dharma is strong, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath claimed on Saturday. He spoke with News18 in an interview.
He also accused the opposition parties, claiming that they wanted to divide the country on caste-religious lines for their own political interests.
“…if Sanatan dharma is strong, then our country will be strong…," the BJP CM of UP said, reports PTI.
On January 9th, Adityanath suggested that Indian Muslims must hand over Sambhal Masjid to Hindus. He also asked Muslims to “accept their mistakes” over the alleged demolition of the Hari Har temple, which was claimed to be there at the site of Shahi Jama Masjid in Sambhal, The Wire reported.
He also said that Muslims must stop “putting unnecessary obstacles in the path of the symbols of Sanatan Dharma”. He claimed that it would bring a new wave of communal harmony in the country.
On the same day, he said that no disputed structure should be called a mosque. Hurting anyone’s faith by constructing a mosque-like structure does not align with Islamic principles; worship at such sites is not acceptable to God too, he claimed. Islam does not mandate the construction of a structure for worship, but Sanatan Dharma does.
“Sanatanis go to temples for worship (this is not so) for Islamic practices. Therefore, it is unnecessary and counter-productive to insist on calling any structure a mosque. This is a time to embrace the vision of a new India and move forward with progressive thinking. We must focus on building unity and harmony instead of clinging to disputes of the past,” he was quoted.
