India VS. Canada: Congress supports government as crisis spirals

New Delhi: The Congress on Tuesday backed the government as it is setting records straight with Canada after it alleged that India involved in the killing of a Khalistan terrorist.

The grand old party’s response came after India hit back at Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s allegations that ‘Indian agents’ had been behind killing Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

Jairam Ramesh, who is the communications in-charge of the party said the country's fight against terrorism has to be uncompromising.

‘The Indian National Congress has always believed that our country's fight against terrorism has to be uncompromising, especially when terrorism threatens India's sovereignty, unity and integrity. Our country's interests and concerns must be kept paramount at all times,’ his post online read.

Hardeep Singh Nijjar was shot dead by unknown attackers near a gurdwara in Surrey last June.

A designated terrorist, Hardeep Singh Nijjar was wanted by India.

Reacting to Trudeau’s allegations, India described the charges as ‘absurd and motivated’.

At the emergency session of the parliament, Trudeau linked the terrorist’s killing to what he said ‘agents of the Government of India’.

‘Any involvement of a foreign government in the killing of a Canadian citizen on Canadian soil is an unacceptable violation of our sovereignty,’ he was quoted as saying.

India’s foreign ministry accused Canada of sheltering Khalistani terrorists, saying ‘The space given in Canada to a range of illegal activities including murders, human trafficking and organised crime is not new.’

Worsening the crisis, Canada expelled a senior Indian diplomat to which India paid back in their own coin asking a senior Canadian diplomat to leave India within the next five days.
