‘India is unstoppable’: PM Modi amid Trump Tariff tensions
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Addressing the nation on the occasion of Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that India is ‘unstoppable’, making clear the country’s stand in the face of the US’ tariff threats.
In a veiled response to the US, PM Modi said that India would not compromise on the interest of farmers, nor accept any ‘detrimental policies’, according to NDTV.
Breaking former PM Indira Gandhi’s record of most number of Independence Day speeches today, PM Modi stands now next only to Jawaharlal Nehru with 12 consecutive speeches against Nehru’s 17 Independence Day addresses in a row.
Tensions between the US and India have been on the rise since President Trump clamped 50 tariff on Indian goods after India rejected the US pressure against buying Russian oil.
Calling for supplying to the global market quality goods at low price, PM Modi said: ‘This is the time to script history. We have to rule the world market. We have to lower production costs. It is time to prove our mettle in global markets with quality products.’
The mantra according to him should be 'Daam Kam, Dum Zyada (less price, higher quality), adding that just as economic selfishness is on the rise there is no point in worrying about other country, instead India should ‘move ahead and meet our goals’.
‘We should not waste our energy in belittling others, our focus should be on strengthening ourselves,’ he said while urging the people to take a resolve for building a 'samarth Bharat (strong India)'.
‘The past decade focused on reform, perform and transform; now we have to focus on greater goals. We want our traders, shopkeepers to display boards for 'Swadeshi' products. If you need any change in government policies, do let me know,’ he was quoted as saying.
Reiterating the government’s strong stand against anti-farmer policies, PM Modi asserted that he will stand like wall for the farmers, ‘I will not abandon my farmers. Farmers contribute a lot to our economy, they have made India top producer of several commodities’.
