IMD predicts 2 days' cold wave for Delhi, Punjab, UP, MP

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted cold waves for Delhi, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh for the upcoming few days. It predicted heavy rainfall or snowfall for Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarkhand, Asian News International reported. Light rain or drizzle is also predicted for Uttar Pradesh.

Meanwhile, Delhi, the national capital region, received rainfall in the past 24 hours.

IMD further said that in case of minimum temperatures, Gujarat's had gone 5 to 7 degrees Celcius over normal, 3 to 5 degrees Celcius over normal in Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana and Madhya Pradesh and 1 to 2 degrees Celcius over normal in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and West Bengal, while remains around normal in rest of North India.

However, the weather department predicts no pronounced change in minimum temperature over most of Northwest India and Madhya Pradesh for the next two days.

On Sunday morning, Shimla in Himachal Pradesh and some parts of J&K witnessed fresh snowfall while Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur experienced a cold wave. IMD predicts fairly widespread/widespread light/moderate rainfall accompanied with isolated thunderstorm/lightning/hailstorm for Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh for Sunday.

Under the current weather, at least 13 trains are running late and will arrive late today in Delhi.
