Hyderabad: PK Sreemathy visits Kerala Thattukada threatened by Bajrang Dal
text_fieldsHyderabad: Former Kerala minister PK Sreemathy said that Bajrang Dal cow vigilantes who threatened Kerala Thattukada in Hyderabad were aiming at creating fear among the religious minorities.
Visiting the restaurant near the English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) in the city, she took stock of the situation after a mob led by Bajrang Dal cow vigilantes on October 24 caused the eatery to shut down, Siasat.com reported.
The right-wing groups targeted the restaurant after a cattle trader identified as Ibrahim shot Gau Rakshak named Sonu Singh alias Prashanth at Rampally village of Pocharam municipality in Medchal Malkajgiri district on October 22.
Responding to the violence at the restaurant, she said Bajrang was aiming at creating fear among the religious minorities, adding that they similarly targeted nuns in Chhattisgarh, ‘They want One Nation, One Religion,’ she said.
Sreemathy, former the health and family welfare minister from 2006 to 2011 in the Left Democratic Front (LDF), said that people were vigilant and police acted responsibly when Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad workers came at the restaurant to attack, adding ‘We hope they will never come’.
The outlet quoted Santosh, who coordinates Kerala comrades in Hyderabad, as saying that Bajrang Dal targeted the restaurant run by Christians as they did not have the guts to do the same in the old city of Hyderabad.
The Osmania University police arrested around 20 persons for trespassing and threatening the staff of Kerala Thattukada and lodged them at the Cherlapalli Central Prison.
Sreemathy is the state secretary of the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA), the women’s wing of CPI (M).
