Faridabad: A man stalking a 17-year-old girl opened fire on her in Haryana's Faridabad district on Monday evening, NDTV reported.

The incident took place at Ballabhgarh about 40 km from the Delhi border when the girl was returning from a coaching class.

The shooter, identified as Jatin Mangla, had been stalking the girl even after she spurned his advances.

The teenager has been hospitalised with two bullet injuries, and police are looking for the shooter.

Footage from CCTV camera showed the shooter waiting for the target in the alley where the attack took place.

He is seen standing next to a bike seemingly hiding something in his bag.

As the girl appears in the alley the attacker, gun in hand walks over to the other side of lane, opens fire on her.

Two other girls accompanying her flee in panic as two bullets have rung out with one hitting her shoulder, while other grazes her abdomen.

As she cries for help, the shooter takes his bag and flees the scene on his bike and shortly later her friend rushes back to help her.

It is reported citing the police that weapon used has been recovered just as search is on for the attacker.

‘Preliminary inquiry reveals that the accused is known to the victim. The girl has recognised the accused. We have registered an FIR. Police and Crime Branch are searching for the accused,’ a police spokesperson reportedly said.

The girl according to her sister was returning from a coaching class for board exams.

‘He was waiting for her, you can see in the CCTV footage. As soon as he saw her, her fired,’ she said.

The attacker she said was aiming at her heart but instead the bullet went through her hand hitting her shoulder when she raised her hand to protect her.

The man had been stalking her for a few days, she said, adding that ‘We contacted his family. His mother pleaded with us and said he won't do it again. So we let it go. And the next day, this happens’.
