New Delhi: Police have brought to light a medical racket operating in the national capital’s posh Greater Kailash area, according to NDTV.

Four people have been arrested for the death of two patients who had undergone surgeries at Agarwal Medical Centre in South Delhi.

Those arrested include Dr Neeraj Agarwal, his wife Pooja Agarwal and Dr Jaspreet Singh along with former laboratory technician Mahender Singh, NDTV reported citing police.

As the sensational medical scam is unfolding, it is reported that alongside disregarding medical protocols the gang had a woman posing as a surgeon.

It is now revealed that a patient identified as Asgha Ali was admitted to the clinic in 2022 for gallbladder surgery.

Hospital authorities reportedly informed Ali that a qualified surgeon Dr Jaspreet would perform the surgery.

However, just ahead of the surgery was to take place, Dr Jaspreet was replaced by Pooja and Mahendra.

Post the surgery, Ali complained of severe pain and was immediately rushed to Safdarjung Hospital.

He was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Dr Agarwal, who runs the clinic, and three others performed surgeries on vital organs of patients without keeping to medical protocols, it is alleged.

Dr Agarwal, a physician, performed different surgeries with the strength of possessing forged documents, the report said citing complainants.

The news agency PTI reported that there have been at least nine complaints against Dr Agarwal, Pooja and the Agarwal Medical Centre since 2016.

Patients died from medical negligence in seven of the cases against them, according to the report.

‘On November 1, a medical board consisting of four doctors was called to examine the medical centre, and a lot of shortcomings and deficiencies were observed,’ Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Chandan Chowdhary reportedly said.

Police have found details of Agarwal’s practice of falsifying documents linked to patients and surgery.
