New Delhi: Shehla Rashid, former vice-president of Jawaharlal Nehru University students' union, thanked the central government and security forces for maintaining ‘long-term peace and security’ in Kashmir, NDTV reported.

In a post on social media platform X, Rashid said that ‘Peace is impossible without security, as the Middle East crisis has shown’.

Rashid’s post comes as the spiraling crisis in the Middle East began claiming more lives and casualties after Israel hit back at Hamas.

‘Looking at the events in the Middle East, today I realise how lucky we are as Indians. The Indian Army and security forces have sacrificed their everything for our safety. Credit where it's due @pmoindia @HMOIndia @manojsinha_ @adgpi @ChinarcorpsIA for bringing peace to Kashmir," Rashid posted on X.

Rashid emerged as a major voice critical of the Centre amid the incidents surrounding JNU in 2016 when student leaders were arrested over anti-national slogans.

In another post, Rashid further stressed that ‘Peace is impossible without security, as the Middle East crisis has shown. The Indian Army @ChinarcorpsIA along with @crpfindia and brave personnel of Jammu Kashmir Police @JmuKmrPolice have made tremendous sacrifices to ensure long-term peace and security in Kashmir.’

Rashid openly lately backed the Centre over Kashmir policies and in July 2019 she withdrew petition that challenged Centre’s revoking of special status to Jammu and Kashmir, according to NDTV.

Alongside, she previously said that Human rights record in Jammu and Kashmir has improved under Modi government.

On August 15 this year Rashid tweeted to say that ‘@OfficeOfLGJandK administration. By a purely utilitarian calculus, the govt's clear stance has helped save lives overall. That's my angle’.
