Gujarat HC slaps Rs 25,000 on Kejriwal for seeking PM Modi’s degree details
text_fieldsAhmedabad: The Gujarat High Court has quashed a request seeking details of PM Narendra Modi's degree on a petition by Gujarat University, besides slapping a fine of Rs 25,000 on Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal for seeking the information through the Central Information Commission (CIC).
Upon Kejriwal’s request, the Central Information Commission (CIC), had directed Gujarat University to find information related to PM Modi’s graduation. However, the University approached the High Court to have the CIC direction quashed.
Kejriwal has been directed to pay the amount to Gujarat State Legal Services Authority within four weeks.
The university was represented by senior advocate Tushar Mehta, who is also the Solicitor General of India.
On Friday, the Gujarat High Court declined to stay the order despite requests from Kejriwal's counsel, senior advocate Percy Kavina, and advocate Aum Kotwal. The Court also noted that it had rejected the counsel's request to be heard on the matter of costs imposed, as it was not raised during the arguments.
