Gadkari inaugurates Indias 1st AC electric double-decker bus

New Delhi: India's first AC double-decker electric bus was inaugurated in Mumbai by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Thursday.

"Ushering Sustainable Revolution! It gives me immense pleasure to launch the Ashok Leyland's Electric Double-Decker Bus in Mumbai today," the minister tweeted. According to him, the project will give a dynamic boost to the sustainable transport sector.

In another tweet, Gadkari said, "Giving Dynamic Boost to the sustainable transportation sector, such initiatives are cost-effective solutions & achieve PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji's vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat by cutting down oil imports and promoting indigenous resource & services."

He said that vision and policies of the Modi government are supportive of electronic vehicle adoption with growing consumer demand for greener solutions.

The inaugurated bus, manufactured by Switch Mobility Ltd (Switch), can carry nearly twice the number of seated passengers as compared to a single-decker bus. It has contemporary styling with feel-good interiors and exteriors. Also, wide front and rear doors, two staircases and an emergency door, and the company promise the latest safety standards for the vehicle.
