FIR filed against Amitabh Bhachan and KBC makers after question on Manusmriti sparks outrage
text_fieldsAn FIR has reportedly been registered in Lucknow against Bollywood actor Amitabh Bacchan and the makers of Kaun Banega Crorepati by RW groups for a controversial question regarding the Manusmriti.
The controversial episode aired on Friday and included the question: "On December 1927, Dr BR Ambedkar and his followers burned copies of which scripture?" directed at guests Human Right Activist Bezwada Wilson, and TV show host cum Actor Anup Sony.
Some twitter users called the action of Amitabh Bachan and KBC makers as "purely Hinduphobic" and "disrespectful of Indian culture". Many even called for boycotting the show for it's "Anti-Hindu" approach. Netizens took the question as an offence and said "The show paints Ambedkar as Anti-Hindu but he was not." Others questioned the relevance of asking about Manusmrithi which is an outdated Hindu religious text.
Director Vivek Agnihotri tweeted that "KBC has been hijacked by Commies. Innocent kids should learn that this is how cultural wars are won [sic]. It's called coding".
Currently, the 12th season of 'Kaun Banega Crorepathi' has been airing on Sony TV since September 29. After announcing the answer to the alleged controversial question, Bacchan announced the answer as: "In 1927, Dr BR Ambedkar condemned the ancient Hindu text Manusmriti and also burned copies of it."
A #BoycottKBC has been announced by prominent RW groups across social media platforms.
