New Delhi: Yoga guru Baba Ramdev hustled up his ‘ATM’ recipe for Filmmaker Farah Khan when she turned up at his Haridwar aashram recently, The Indian Express reported.

He explained that the acronym ATM stands for aloevera, turmeric, and methi, or sprouted fenugreek, which is termed as his ‘anti-ageing’ dish made with ‘gaay ka ghee,” or cow ghee.

It is cooked adding in a wok cow ghee, hing, garlic raw turmeric, fresh aloe vera, raw, sprouted fenugreek (methi), and curry leaves.

Ramdev claimed that Aloe vera could support anti-ageing. He said that it would help one continue remain youthful.

When Farah asked whether eating the sabzi would help her remain young and beautiful, Ramdev said, “Yes, for many years”.

Following which The Indian Express set out to verify the claim with Consultant dietitian Garima Goyal saying that the ingredients in the dish were individually found to have health-promoting properties.

The bioactive compounds in aloe vera could help digestion while being mildly laxative.

However, excessive intake of it unprocessed aloe latex could lead to abdominal cramps or electrolyte imbalance.

Turmeric being rich in curcumin offers anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits but for better absorption it should be taken with fat or black pepper.

Fenugreek seeds has soluble fibre alongside compounds that can support blood sugar levels, digestion and cholesterol levels.

However, combining these three ingredients ‘doesn’t automatically multiply their effects’.

Goyal added that ‘consuming it on an empty stomach in concentrated amounts could irritate sensitive stomachs. A balanced diet with these ingredients used in culinary amounts is often more sustainable than consuming them as a bitter medicinal dish’.

Goyal also made it clear that eating the mix in moderation is not harmful for most people but it is not a ‘quick-fix’ or substitute for medical treatment to manage diabetes, cholesterol, or digestive issues.
