Delhi minimum temperature hits 15.8°C, air quality ‘very poor’
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Delhi’s air quality fell into the "very poor" category on Sunday as the mercury dropped to 15.8 degrees Celsius, marking the lowest October temperature in the past two years.
The city recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 324, up from 292 the previous day. The AQI had remained in the "poor" category for the past two days. Anand Vihar reported a "severe" AQI of 429, followed by Wazirpur at 400. Overall, 28 monitoring stations across Delhi recorded "very poor" air quality with readings above 300, according to the Sameer app of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
As per the CPCB, an AQI between 0 and 50 is considered "good," 51 to 100 "satisfactory," 101 to 200 "moderate," 201 to 300 "poor," 301 to 400 "very poor," and 401 to 500 "severe."
The minimum temperature of 15.8°C was 1.4 degrees below normal, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). In October 2023, the lowest temperature recorded was 15.9°C. Delhi’s humidity stood at 66 per cent at 8:30 am.
The maximum temperature is expected to reach around 30°C, with the IMD forecasting a mainly clear sky that may become partly cloudy by evening or night.
