Delhi LG orders safety audit of all parks after gangrape of teenager

New Delhi: Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Wednesday directed authorities to conduct a safety audit of all parks in the national capital and deploy Pink Police personnel around their premises following the alleged gangrape of a teenage girl at Astha Kunj Park near Kalkaji Temple.
The directions were issued during a meeting with the Delhi Police Commissioner, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Commissioner and Delhi Development Authority (DDA) Vice Chairman, according to the LG Office, The New Indian Express reported.
Sandhu instructed officials to complete a comprehensive safety audit of all parks in the city within a week. The review will focus on lighting, security arrangements, regular police patrolling and cleanliness, the LG Office said in a post on X.
The Delhi Police was also directed to intensify beat patrolling around parks, including through the deployment of Pink Police personnel, as part of efforts to strengthen security in and around these public spaces.
The measures followed the alleged gangrape of a 17-year-old girl from Faridabad by three men at Astha Kunj Park near Kalkaji Temple on Monday evening.
