Congress-AAP to meet today to iron out differences ahead of polls
text_fieldsNew Delhi: The Congress leadership will on Monday hold talks with the Aam Aadmi Party in an effort to iron out differences to strengthen the Opposition’s INDIA bloc.
The meeting comes in the backdrop of the Congress’s failure in the recent Assembly polls showing signs of INDIA bloc tottering under the weight of internal differences.
The talks between the two parties suggest that the Opposition alliance could finalise a seat-sharing plan for 2024 polls without amplifying differences.
However, the Congress and AAP have not been in good terms, despite joining forces in July last year, over plans for fighting state and Lok Sabha elections, NDTV reported.
The latest move suggests that the Congress leadership is fully aware of the importance of the AAP’s support.
It is particularly so after the Congress' failure in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh Assembly elections.
The failure has taken the sheen off the alliance with Arvind Kejriwal, Nitish Kumar, Akhilesh Yadav, and Mamata Banerjee skipping the meetings called for by Congress.
With the talks the Congress hopes to arrive at a seat-sharing agreements before Rahul Gandhi begins Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatr on January 14, according to NDTV.
Alongside, the INDIA bloc has to solve differences between Congress and the Trinamool Congress over seat-sharing in Bengal.
