Centre's claims that Jammu Kashmir is in peace hollow: Yousuf Tarigami
text_fieldsMadurai: The struggle of the Kashmiri people is not over, and the Kashmiri people should have the support of all Indians, including Malayalis, to regain their democratic rights, said CPI(M) central committee member and Kashmir Assembly member Mohammed Yousuf Tarigami. He was speaking at the ongoing CPI(M) party congress in Madurai. The central government's claim that Kashmir is experiencing peace and everything is fine is a hollow claim. The people are largely disappointed, becoming more alienated and are in the grip of terrible oppression. Tarigami said that the denial of civil rights is more severe than before.
Tarigami said that there are restrictions and muzzling of media in the valley, and therefore, information does not reach the outside world.
“Have you heard of a state being downgraded to a Union Territory before? No. It happened in Kashmir on August 5, 2019. We said then that it would not be isolated. It may happen again tomorrow in Kerala or Tamil Nadu. - The Hindutva government is trying to keep the entire country under its control. It is certain that Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Bengal will have to face the excessive use of power by the Center,” Tarigami warned.
He said that the states are on the path of struggle to save the federal system.
He continued that when the country gained independence, Kashmiris did not become part of the Indian Union due to any pressure. The ruler of Kashmir, Maharaja Hari Singh, a Hindu, wanted Kashmir to join Pakistan, but the people of Kashmir, who have a Muslim majority, decided to stay with the Indian Union, which is the faith of the people of Kashmir in the secular concept of India, he said. He asserted that it is what Modi, Amit Shah and their government have broken.
He pointed out that Kashmir's special status is not new. Outsiders were banned from buying land there since the time of the Maharaja. He noted that some other states in India have special rights similar to those of Kashmir, but they all remained when the special rights were taken away, and Kashmir was demoted to a union territory, he said
The move against Kashmir is part of the communal agenda of the Sangh Parivar, he added.
