Kolkata: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has started questioning Trinamool Congress's Birbhum district president Anubrata Mondal on incidents of violence during West Bengal's Assembly polls last year, PTI reports.

"He is being questioned in connection with incidents of post-poll violence in the state," a senior officer of the probe agency said.

On Wednesday night, Mondal reached Kolkata and went to the CBI office on Thursday morning.

Mondal had requested 15 days to appear before CBI, citing that his doctors have advised him complete rest. But he has arrived before the agency for questing on the tenth day after his request.

Earlier, the TMC leader was interrogated regarding a cattle smuggling case. He had returned to back hometown, Bolpur in Birbhum district, only on May 21 after that questioning session, which had made him stay in Kolkata for one and half months. During that period, he was admitted to the state-run SSKM hospital for more than two weeks.
