New Delhi: Hours after withdrawing 41diplomats, Canada urged its citizens to be cautious while traveling in India.

The directive is the latest in the diplomatic tussles between two nations in the weeks since they fell out over the death of a Khalistani terrorist in Canada.

‘Exercise a high degree of caution in India due to the threat of terrorist attacks throughout the country,’ the advisory reportedly read.

'There are calls for protests and some negative sentiments towards Canada in traditional media and social media’, it said.

The advisory warned Canadian citizens to 'keep a low profile with strangers, and not share your personal information with them’.

It gave the heads-up that Canadian citizens could face ‘intimidation and harassment’ alongside chances of anti-Canada protests taking place.

‘In the context of recent developments in Canada and India, there are calls for protests and some negative sentiment towards Canada in traditional media and on social media,’ it reportedly said.

Reports in the morning said that Canada withdrew 41 diplomats after India warned about removing their ‘diplomatic immunity’.

Canada urged its citizens in cities including Mumbai, Chandigarh and Bengaluru to be cautious, alongside pausing in-person services at the consulates in these places.

‘Exercise a high degree of caution in and around Bengaluru, Chandigarh, and Mumbai. Consular services in-person are temporarily unavailable in those cities or surrounding areas,’ the advisory reportedly said.

The advisory particularly asked Canadians to be vigilant about criminals targeting foreigners in major cities and tourist areas.

In addition to it, it pointed out the ‘common’ petty crimes like pickpocketing and purse snatching.

The diplomatic row between India and Canada began after PM Justin Trudeau accused India of involvement in the murder of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
