New Delhi: Police found that a bomb threat mail received by a Delhi school was a hoax and was sent by a teenage student in his bid to skip classes. Police informed NDTV on Saturday that the Summer Fields School in Kailash Colony in Delhi's Greater Kailash area received the bomb threat mail on Friday, and the school was immediately evacuated.

The principal of the school, Shalini Agarwal, said on Friday that they received the email late at night, and they checked it early morning on Friday. They evacuated the students as per the SOP within 10 minutes of reading the mail, the principal said.

Police said that the 14-year-old student had been identified and was being questioned. The student wanted to skip school, and therefore, he sent the threat, police said. They continued that the student had added the names of two more schools in the mail to make it genuine, and more investigation is underway.

In May, a total of 131 schools in the national capital;l received bomb threat emails. Police had said that the email used to threaten the schools contained the word 'Swaraiim', which has been used by the Islamic State since 2014 to spread propaganda, NDTV reports.

However, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) later issued an official statement that the emails were hoaxes. The ministry assured us that there was no need to panic and that Delhi Police and security forces were taking the necessary steps as per protocol.
