BJP worker arrested for "derogatory" post against Karnataka CM in toilet video scandal

Bengaluru: A BJP worker, Shakunthala, was arrested today in Bengaluru for allegedly posting derogatory content on social media against Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The post, shared on Twitter and Facebook, referred to the Udupi toilet video scandal and made objectionable remarks about the Chief Minister and his family.
The incident came to light when three students were accused of secretly recording a video in the women's toilet at a private professional training college in Udupi, Karnataka. Last week, an alert student found a mobile phone in the restroom and reported it to the college administration. An investigation into the device revealed no compromising content, and the student chose not to file a police report.
Despite the lack of incriminating evidence, the college administration reported the incident to the police and subsequently suspended the three students involved.
The BJP has taken issue with the state government's response to the incident, alleging inaction and claiming that the government is using the Udupi case as a political weapon. However, Karnataka Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara has dismissed the incident as a "small" one, suggesting that it was being blown out of proportion and given a political colour.
The situation escalated when Shakunthala, the BJP worker, shared a Congress leader's tweet accusing the BJP of politicising the Udupi case. Shakunthala's own comments in the post questioned whether the Congress leader would have the same reaction if such an incident happened to Siddaramaiah's daughter-in-law or wife.
The Chief Minister's office was alerted about the derogatory post, and a complaint was filed at the High Grounds Police Station in Bengaluru, leading to Shakunthala's arrest.
The incident has fueled tensions between the BJP and the state government, with both sides exchanging accusations. The police are investigating the matter further.
