text_fieldsHome Minister Amit Shah has asked top intelligence officials to identify around 100 "illegal migrants" in each state, The Hindu reported.
Amit Shah reportedly told the meeting of Subsidiary Intelligence Bureaus (SIB) on November 9 to verify their documents, arrest and, if possible, deport them.
Sourcing government officials, the report said that Amit Shah wanted officials to go ahead with "targeted crackdown" despite the neighbouring countries do not take in the undocumented migrants.
The home minister previously pinned down on "undocumented migrant" as the key security challenges of the nation alongside pointing at the attendant demographic changes in border states.
On August 17-18 Amit Shah told the National Security Strategies Conference to keep strict vigil on demographic changes and radicalization in border districts.
The meeting attended by the chiefs of State police was organized by the Intelligence Bureau (IB).
The report further said that at the meeting IB in its presentation linked the rising population in order districts of Uttar Pradesh to extreme poverty in these areas as described in the National Family Health Survey data.
Amit Shah reportedly, not having been convinced with the explanation, asked for a thorough analysis of the factors contributing to it.
Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh police presented a paper at the annual Director General of Police conference ( held from November 19-21, 2021) describing a steady growth in Muslim population in the border villages, alongside the population growth in general in these areas marking higher than national average, according to the report.
It confirmed the "significant increase' in the number of mosques and madrassas over the past few years as the "fallout" of changing demographics in these areas.
The Minister on November 9 also tasked the official to monitor the organized religious conversation by Christian groups as has been frequently claimed by Sikhs, according to the report.
