New Delhi: The second man in BJP and Union Minister Amit Shah doubled his wealth over the past five years, the affidavit he submitted along with his nomination paper before the Gandhinagar district election officer on Friday suggested.

With his nomination, he declared that the combined assets of himself and his wife in 2024 were worth Rs 65.67 crore, The Free Press Journal reported. In 2019, this was 30.49 crores, according to his submission that year as part of his nomination.

However, Shah declared assets in his name alone as worth Rs 36 crore. He claimed in the declaration that he doesn’t own a car and that his cash assets are only worth Rs 24,000.

He has movable assets of worth Rs 20 crore and immovable valued at Rs 16 crore. He has jewellery worth Rs 72 lakhs in possession, while his wife’s jewellery is valued at Rs 1.10 crore, the declaration states.

In the case of his wife, Sonal Shah, she has assets worth over Rs 31 core. This comprises movable assets of Rs 22.46 crore and immovable assets of Rs 9 crore.

Amit Shah has a personal loan of Rs 15.77 lakh, while his wife has a loan of Rs 26.32 lakh. In the financial year 2022-23, Shah had an annual income of Rs 39.54 lakh. The sources of income include his salary as an MP, rental revenue from his different properties, agricultural earnings and income from shares and dividends.

According to his declaration, he is a farmer by profession and a social worker. He stated in the affidavit that there were three criminal cases registered against him.

In Gujarat, all 26 Lok Sabha seats will go to polls on May 7th, the third phase of the polls in 2024. The results of the polls in the 543 LS seats in the country will be declared on the 4th of June.
