text_fieldsActor Aishwarya Rai joined thousands of devotees in Puttaparthi, Andhra Pradesh, on November 19 to celebrate the 100th birth anniversary of Sathya Sai Baba.
The centenary event drew major figures, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, and several other dignitaries.
Addressing the large gathering, Aishwarya delivered a message centred on unity and compassion, saying that there was only one caste – the caste of humanity – and only one religion, the religion of love. She added that there was only one language, the language of the heart, and only one God, who is omnipresent.
She spoke about the lasting influence of Sathya Sai Baba, saying that his teachings continued to resonate with millions across the world.
She added that on the historic and sacred occasion of his centenary celebrations, her heart was filled with deep devotion and gratitude, and that although a century had passed since his birth, his presence, principles, teachings, and compassion still reverberated in the hearts of millions worldwide.
Aishwarya also thanked Prime Minister Modi for attending the event, saying that she extended a heartfelt gratitude to him for being present at the centenary celebration.
She added that she looked forward to hearing his wise, impactful, and inspiring words, which she said would enthral the gathering. She said his presence added sanctity to the occasion and reminded everyone of Swami’s message that true leadership is service, and that service to man is service to God.
Continuing her address, she spoke about the values she associates with her faith and recalled the teachings she considers essential for a purposeful spiritual life. She said that she had always held the divine message close to her heart with humility and honesty.
She added that Sathya Sai Baba often spoke about five essential qualities needed for a meaningful, purposeful, and spiritually anchored life – discipline, dedication, devotion, determination, and discrimination, the last referring to the ability to distinguish between right and wrong.
Sathya Sai Baba, a spiritual leader and philanthropist who claimed to be the reincarnation of Shirdi Sai Baba, left home at the age of 14. He passed away in 2011, but his influence continues among followers across the world.
