AIMIM chief Owaisi says bullets fired on his vehicle in UP
text_fieldsHyderabad: All India Majils-e-Ittehadul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Thursday said that bullets were fired on his vehicle in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh, but he is safe.
"Bullets were fired on my vehicle near Chhajarsi toll plaza. Four rounds were fired. There were three-four people, all of them fled leaving behind the weapon on the scene. My vehicle got punctured, but I left from there in another vehicle. We are all safe," Owaisi tweeted in Hindi
According to an ANI report, the assailants include two people who fired Owaisi's convoy when he was leaving Meerut's Kithoudh area for Delhi today. He also informed that his car got punctured which led him to leave the place in another vehicle.
"I was leaving for Delhi after a poll event in Kithaur, Meerut (UP). Around three to four rounds of bullets were fired upon my vehicle by two people near Chhajarsi toll plaza.", reports ANI quoting Owaisi
"They were a total of 3-4 people. Tyres of my vehicle got punctured, then I left the place in another vehicle," he told to ANI.
Owaisi also requested the Election Commission to order an independent inquiry into the shooting incident.
"It is the responsibility of the UP govt and Modi govt to conduct an independent inquiry", Owaisi later reacted to the media in Delhi.
He also said he would meet the Lok Sabha Speaker on this incident.
Meanwhile, the Superintendent of Police of Hapur, Deepak Bhuker informed the media that One of the attackers has been apprehended and is being questioned. The police also informed that a weapon has been recovered from the apprehended person.
"His accomplice managed to flee, search operation is underway for him. We'll update you when more facts come to the fore. Nobody was injured so far. We are checking the CCTV footage", Bhuker told the media.
Owaisi also confirmed regarding police taking one of the assailants in custody.
