Lingayat seer dies by suicide following another seer's sexual assault case

A Lingayat seer allegedly killed himself in the mutt in Karnataka's Belagavi district on Monday.
Basava Siddalinga Swami was found hanging in his quarters by his followers and attendants.
The seer's death comes in the backdrop of sexual assault case against Lingayat seer Shivamurthy Murugha Sharanaru.
Police sources said the seer who allegedly committed suicide was upset after an audio clip emerged of two women discussing the sexual assault in the mutts in Karnataka.
The women had also mentioned the name of the now deceased seer in the audio, according to India Today.
Shivamurthy Murugha Sharanaru was booked under sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act after allegedly assaulting minor girls.
Police have recovered what they believe a suicide note left behind by Basava Siddalinga Swami, whose content is not known yet.
However, investigation has started to understand the cause of his death.
