New Delhi: Four members of a notorious gang from Bihar were killed in a police encounter in the national capital early on Thursday, NDTV reported.

The shoot-out between most-wanted gangsters belonging to Sigma Gang and the teams of the Delhi and Bihar Police took place in Northwest Delhi.

The encounter, according to the Delhi police, took place at 2.20 am while trying to intercept the gangsters.

It is reported citing the police that the gang members opened fire leading to the encounter.

All four gangsters identified as Ranjan Pathak (aged 25), Bimlesh Mahto (aged 25), Manish Pathak (aged 33), and Aman Thakur (aged 21) sustained gunshot injuries.

Doctors at Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital, Rohini declared them dead when they were taken there.

It is reported that Ranjan Pathak was the leader of the gang.

The gang over the years built a network carrying out in extortion and contract killings across Bihar.

The four men, according to the police, were wanted in several cases including murder, extortion, and organised criminal activities in Bihar.

Pathak, carrying a bounty of Rs 25,000 on his arrest, was wanted in murders in Sitamarhi and adjoining districts of the state.

It is reported citing police that Ranjan Pathak was openly challenging the police on social media.

An audio clip recently revealed the details of the group’s conspiracy ahead of the assembly polls in Bihar.

The group, which is active for nearly seven years, was regrouping in Delhi following police action in Bihar.

The police had been tracking their movement for several days before the operation.

The area was cordoned off following the encounter alongside forensic teams were called in to collect evidence.

A probe is underway to trace the gang's remaining network and links.
