200 booked in Shahjahanpur over protest against offensive religious posts on social media

In Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur, police have filed an FIR against 200 unidentified individuals, all from the same community, for protesting outside a police station after a youth posted offensive remarks against Islam on social media.
The protestors gathered outside the Sadar Bazar police station, raised slogans, and blocked the road. Police officials tried to calm the crowd by informing them that the accused had already been arrested. However, when the crowd refused to disperse, mild force was used to clear the area, according to the police.
Station House Officer Arvind Chauhan confirmed that a case has been registered against the 200 protestors in connection with the demonstration at the police station.
The incident follows the arrest of a resident who allegedly made derogatory remarks on Facebook that hurt religious sentiments. A complaint was lodged at the Sadar Bazar police station, and the offending post was removed.
In a separate incident, police arrested a woman on Saturday for posting objectionable comments about deities on social media platforms like Facebook. Two other individuals were also booked in the case registered on Friday.
The Shahjahanpur police have appealed to the public not to post or share offensive content targeting any individual or community. They urged people to report such material immediately, warning that strict action will be taken against offenders.
