12 killed after minibus rams into container in Maharashtra
text_fieldsMumbai: At least 12 persons, including a four-month-old child, died and 23 others were injured after a minibus. lost control and rammed into a container on the Samruddhi Mahamarg in Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district, formerly known as Aurangabad, early on Sunday.
The private bus was carrying 35 pilgrims, who were returning from Buldhana Sailani Baba Dargah and heading to Nashik when it met with the devastating accident, said the police officials.
The incident occurred around 12.30 a.m. on Sunday, said a senior police official. “A minibus that appears to have lost control went and rammed onto the container from behind causing the death of 12 persons,” said an official.
The passengers were rushed to a nearby hospital, where 12 people were declared dead amid treatment, and 23 sustained injuries.
“An accident at Jambargaon toll plaza on Nagpur – Mumbai Samruddhi Expressway resulting in the death of 12 and injuring 23 is an extremely unfortunate incident. Repeated incidents of accidents on the Samruddhi Expressway, are a matter of extreme worry. The government needs to act by studying the reasons for such accidents,” Member of Parliament Supriya Sule said, reports The Indian Express.
