New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes to the victims of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre on Tuesday as we commemorate the 102nd anniversary of the brutal killings of 1919 in Jallianwala Bagh.

"Tributes to those martyred in the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Their courage, heroism and sacrifice give strength to every Indian," said the Prime Minister in a tweet.

The Jallianwala Bagh massacre of 1919 is remembered in Indian history as a day of indiscriminate killings of thousands of Indians who had assembled in Jallianwala Bagh in Punjab for Baisakhi Day celebrations and to protest against deportation of two important Indian leaders, by the British troops.

Under the Brigadier-General Reginald Dyer, the army entered Jallianwala Bagh and blocked the main entrance to open fire a crowd on the crowd for about 10 minutes. Many jumped into a well in a desperate attempt to save themselves as the soldiers showered bullets at them.
