Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) is a much-anticipated role-playing game and it has now changed studios. The game will be developed by Saber Interactive's Eastern European studio.

Now, the KOTOR remake is expected to be released in 2025.

Last month, the production of the title was paused until further notice. It also came with the news of two top employees at Aspyr Media getting fired. The project has been in the making for the past three years. Both Aspyr Media and Easter European Studio are owned by Embracer Group. The transition was hinted at in its financial earnings last week.

The transition was reportedly made to ensure the quality bar and the company is not expecting any material delays, reported Bloomberg.

The plot of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is set thousands of years before George Lucas' films. Based on an earlier comic book series, the game has elements taken from Dungeons and Dragons. It was considered to be one of the best Star Wars games ever made due to features like combat with time constraints and an alignment system tracking the players' actions.

Embracer Group's financial report did not mention which project was being transitioned. It also did not mention the name of the studios involved. The Bloomberg report claims the report was about the KOTOR remake.

Embracer Group recently acquired the rights to The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit via the acquisition of Middle-Earth Enterprises. The company is set to work on multiple projects over time.

Previous reports had mentioned that Aspyr revealed a finalised demo to partners Sony and Lucasfilm but they were not happy with the results. This led to the company firing design director Brad Prince and art director Jason Minor.

Aspyr Media developed the original 2003 version and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.
