Chiyaan Vikram's Thangalaan release date contingent on election schedule, says producer
text_fieldsChennai: The anticipated release of Thangalaan, featuring Chiyaan Vikram and directed by Pa. Ranjith, faces a potential postponement, according to producer G Dhananjayan.
In a recent interview with Rednool, he unveiled that the film's release, initially slated for April, hinges on the announcement of election dates.
While the film was initially intended for a January 26th release, extensive VFX work led to a delay. Producer Dhananjayan disclosed that the decision to wait for election dates was strategic, aiming for a time when public attention is on politics rather than cinema.
Dhananjayan emphasised the meticulous efforts of Vikram and Pa. Ranjith, highlighting the film's period action drama genre set between the 1870s and 1940s. Thangalaan unfolds against the backdrop of the Kolar Gold Fields, portraying the resistance of local tribes against British forces eyeing the region for gold mining.
Acknowledging the film's exceeding budget, Dhananjayan noted the confidence of co-producer Gnanavel Raja in its content. Considering the significant investment at stake, the producer outlined the need for strategic planning, factoring in upcoming events such as board exams, IPL, and the 2024 Parliamentary elections, which could impact theatre attendance.
Dhananjayan clarified that Thangalaan's production, editing, and re-recording are complete, with the final touches focused on CGI and special effects. The collaboration between Pa. Ranjith and Chiyaan Vikram marks a significant on-screen partnership and features a cast including Parvathy Thiruvothu, Malavika Mohanan, and Pasupathy.
The film, produced by KE Gnanavel Raja and G Dhananjayan under Studio Green, boasts music by GV Prakash, with Kishor Kumar and Selva RK handling cinematography and editing.
