Astro Bot wins big at The Game Awards 2024: full list of winners and highlights
text_fieldsSony’s Astro Bot emerged as the standout winner at The Game Awards 2024, clinching the coveted Game of the Year title alongside three other awards: Best Game Direction, Best Family Game, and Best Action/Adventure Game.
The PS5-exclusive platformer by Team Asobi outshone competitors like Metaphor: ReFantazio, Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth, and Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree to claim the top prize.
Metaphor: ReFantazio, an RPG by Atlus, secured three major awards for Best Narrative, Best Art Direction, and Best RPG. Meanwhile, indie sensation Balatro, a poker-inspired roguelike deckbuilder, received accolades for Best Independent Game, Best Debut Indie Game, and Best Mobile Game.
Although Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth led the nominations alongside Astro Bot with seven nods, it won just one category, taking home the award for Best Score and Music. Other highlights included Black Myth: Wukong winning Best Action Game and Tekken 8 dominating the Best Fighting Game category. Sony’s Helldivers 2 also made a mark, winning Best Ongoing Game and Best Multiplayer Game.
Held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on December 12, 2024, the event was hosted by Geoff Keighley and featured appearances from gaming icons like Hideo Kojima and Todd Howard. Celebrities such as Harrison Ford, Aaron Paul, and Snoop Dogg also graced the stage, with Snoop performing during the event.
The ceremony unveiled several major game announcements, including Naughty Dog’s next sci-fi action title, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, and FromSoftware’s surprise reveal of Elden Ring: Nightreign, a standalone co-op game slated for 2025.
