Puducherry Assembly building

Puducherry: In the southern Union Territory of Puducherry, where polling took place on April 6, together with neighbouring Tamil Nadu, and Kerala, the AINRC-led NDA is leading in 11 seats while the Congress-led alliance headed alliance is ahead in six constituencies, with the DMK in three, the Congress in two and the Ind-Congress in one.

Among the NDA, NRC leads in 6, the BJP in four and the ADMK in one. Result trends in a large number of seats have not been available.

In the union territory which is geographically located mainly within Tamil Nadu with parts spread in Andhra and Kerala too, politics generally toes the Tamil Nadu mainstream.

However, this time the equations are different with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) having roped in a faction of the erstwhile Indian National Congress and later AINRC (All India NR Congress), chief N Rangasamy at the forefront. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhakam is allied with the Indian National Congress.

As per the latest reports available, Rangasamy is leading in his constituency. The Puducherry Assembly has 30 seats.
