Cricketer Amit Mishra arrested in assault case, gets bail

Bengaluru: Team India cricketer Amit Mishra was arrested on assault charges on Tuesday, police confirmed, but was almost immediately given bail.

The spinner, who will play for India in the first two tests against South Africa, has been accused of assaulting and abusing her in a hotel room last month. He was arrested after questioning that lasted almost three hours. He reported for questioning on Tuesday after he was summoned by police.

The woman had claimed in her complaint that Mishra — whom she had known for three years — had hit her when she went to his room to see him when he was in town for a training camp last month. She claimed he was not in his room when she first went but an argument erupted between them when he finally came back.
