Bengal cricket association to give young players English training

The Cricket Association of Bengal has joined hands with the British Council to train young players to communicate better in English.
The new initiative is meant to help them develop better verbal communication skills and etiquette because young Indian cricketers are getting more exposure to international games as well as mentors
Association president Avishek Dalmiya said that he hopes the collaboration with British Council will empower young players from the state "both on and off the field". "Considering their growing exposure to the media through IPL and other platforms, we want to enable our players with better communications skills that will allow them to stand with more confidence and awareness".
He added that the association thinks that this will help the players to better express themselves and make the most of international opportunities.
The British Council will conduct two training programmes for different proficiency levels in spoken English. These programmes will help the players to communicate with confidence in various situations including impromptu conversations and extempore speeches.
The programmes will focus on pronunciation, sentence construction, grammar, fluency of speech, connectors, and transactional and interactive language. The training will be scheduled as per the timing of matches the players have.
British Deputy High Commissioner in Kolkata Nick Low called the initiative "life-changing". He added that the organisation is looking forward to working with the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) to help Bengal's rich vein of cricket talent become the global icons of tomorrow.
