Kuwait has launched the “Kuwait Award for Women’s Excellence: Status and Empowerment” under the patronage of Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.
Minister of Social Affairs, Family and Childhood Affairs Dr Amthal Al-Huwailah announced the initiative during a press conference held ahead of Kuwaiti Women’s Day on May 16.
Dr Al-Huwailah said the award reflects Kuwait’s efforts to support women and strengthen their role in sustainable development in line with Kuwait Vision 2035.
She said the initiative is intended not only to recognise achievements but also to turn the experiences and ideas of award recipients into projects that benefit society and encourage future generations.
According to the minister, the award will be held every two years on May 16. The first phase will focus on Gulf-level participation before expanding internationally following an evaluation process.
The award will cover achievements across government, private sector and civil society fields, in addition to individual categories.
Dr Al-Huwailah said the initiative aims to recognise leading examples of women’s achievements in the Gulf region while supporting winners in developing initiatives that promote long-term social impact.
Plans also include creating an online platform to receive initiatives and connect them with supporting organisations, alongside the development of a database of female talent to support policymakers and decision-makers.
The minister said the program complements other national initiatives, including the recently launched Kuwait Award for Creativity for People with Disabilities.
She added that the award is expected to strengthen Kuwait’s presence at international forums by highlighting regional experiences in women’s empowerment.
A high-level committee will be formed to oversee implementation, develop regulations and approve evaluation criteria, with the Ministry of Social Affairs handling coordination and executive supervision.
