Kuwait will end all automatic extensions to visit visas and absence permits from September 1, the Interior Ministry announced on Thursday.
The move will restore the procedures that were in place before February 28, when authorities introduced special measures following the outbreak of hostilities between the United States and Iran.
The conflict caused major disruption to inbound and outbound flights, while Kuwait’s airspace remained closed for several weeks.
As a result, authorities automatically extended all types of visit visas held by expatriates in Kuwait.
The ministry also extended absence permits for expatriate residents who remained outside the country beyond the permitted period.
In a statement posted on its X account, the ministry said automatic visit visa extensions will end on September 1, with normal procedures resuming from that date.
Special extensions allowing expatriate residents to remain abroad beyond their permitted absence period will also end on September 1.
However, the extensions will remain valid for residents who leave Kuwait by August 31, the ministry said.
The ministry added that the residence permit certificate available through the unified government services application Sahel is the official approved reference for determining the expiry date of an absence permit.
