Kuwait’s population reached about 5.31 million by the end of June 2026, with expatriates continuing to make up the majority of residents, according to data from the Public Authority for Civil Information.
The figures show that Kuwaiti citizens numbered 1.56 million, representing 30 per cent of the population, while expatriates reached 3.74 million, or 70 per cent.
Indians remained the largest foreign community in the country, with about 1.06 million residents. They account for 20 per cent of Kuwait’s total population.
Egyptians were the second-largest expatriate group with 670,000 residents, followed by Bangladeshis at 333,100, Filipinos at 226,500, Syrians at 201,500 and Sri Lankans at 197,400.
The list also included Nepalese residents at 186,600, Saudis at 155,500 and Pakistanis at 105,700.
The data placed Kuwait’s workforce at 3.264 million people, equal to 61 per cent of the country’s population.
Expatriates accounted for 2.8 million workers, with Indians forming the largest share of the labour market at 28.8 per cent. Egyptians followed at 14.6 per cent, while Kuwaitis made up 14.2 per cent.
In the private sector, Indians represented 30.7 per cent of employees. Kuwaitis formed the majority of government workers, accounting for 74.7 per cent of the public sector workforce.
Among Kuwaiti citizens, labour force participation stood at 32 per cent, with men and women equally represented.
PACI data also showed that Kuwait has about 883,300 domestic workers, making up 27 per cent of the workforce. Women accounted for 57.7 per cent of domestic workers.
Indians were also the largest group in domestic work, representing 39 per cent of the sector.
By gender, Kuwait’s population includes about 3.21 million males or 60 per cent, and 2.1 million females, or 40 per cent.
Most residents are of working age, with about 4.28 million people or 81 per cent of the population, between 15 and 64 years old.
