Kuwait launches accessible digital services for people with disabilities

Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy has introduced a new digital services system designed to improve access for people with disabilities and enable them to complete transactions online through specialised accessibility tools.

The ministry said the initiative aims to make government services easier to access while supporting the inclusion of people with disabilities in the digital environment.

Speaking at the launch, Undersecretary Dr Adel Al-Zamil said government efforts are focused not only on delivering services but also on enabling people with disabilities to participate fully in society and development.

Under the new system, users with hearing impairments can communicate directly with ministry employees through sign-language video calls.

The platform also includes Braille-compatible features for blind users and accessibility tools designed to support greater independence for people with mobility disabilities.

In addition, the ministry’s website has been upgraded with screen-reading technology, voice input functions and sign-language translation services

Users can also customise text size, colours and contrast settings to meet different accessibility requirements.

Representatives of disability organisations welcomed the initiative.

Fahad Al-Enezi, head of the Public Relations Committee at the Kuwaiti Association for the Blind, said the project would benefit a large number of visually impaired users through Braille-compatible services, accessible documents and screen-reading technologies.

He described the initiative as an important step towards making government services more accessible and inclusive.
