Kuwait Crown Prince presses UNSC to act on Gaza

Representing His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Kuwait’s Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah addressed the United Nations Security Council on Tuesday on behalf of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), highlighting the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza and urging immediate action.

In his remarks, the Crown Prince said the Palestinian people are enduring severe suffering under a prolonged siege, border destruction and the loss of more than 60,000 lives, most of them women and children. He described the situation in Gaza as genocide and ethnic cleansing, calling it a deep wound in human conscience that requires urgent intervention.

The Crown Prince condemned the recent escalation of violence and, in particular, the Israeli attacks on the State of Qatar. He stressed that any threat to the security of one GCC state is considered an attack on all members, emphasizing their shared security and fate.

He stressed that lasting peace and justice in the region can only be achieved through a two-state solution based on international legitimacy, including UN Security Council resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative. He also underlined the necessity of establishing an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The Crown Prince warned against attempts to undermine this solution through settlement expansion, forced displacement and unilateral measures. He called on the international community, particularly the Security Council, to assume its responsibilities to stop violations, hold perpetrators accountable and safeguard Palestinians’ right to self-determination.

Welcoming the recognition of a Palestinian state announced Monday at a high-level international conference, he described the move as a courageous step aligned with international law and justice.

The GCC, he said, reaffirms its solidarity with the Palestinian people, warning that the ongoing crimes threaten regional and international security. He urged the Security Council to translate statements into concrete action, including halting Israeli aggression, ensuring humanitarian aid access, protecting civilians and ending the occupation.

The Crown Prince concluded by thanking the Organization of Islamic Cooperation for calling for the emergency session.
