Irregularities in Bengal polls: Re-polling ordered in 15 booths
text_fieldsKolkata: The Election Commission of India has ordered re-polling in 15 booths across West Bengal’s Diamond Harbour and Magrahat Paschim constituencies tomorrow (02/05/2026) following complaints of irregularities during voting.
According to the order, re-polling will be held in 11 polling stations in Magrahat Paschim and four in Diamond Harbour. Voting in all 15 booths is scheduled to take place from 7 am to 6 pm.
The decision comes after allegations raised by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) claiming tampering of EVM buttons in these polling stations.
Diamond Harbour is considered a stronghold of Abhishek Banerjee, the national general secretary of the Trinamool Congress (TMC).
Meanwhile, TMC accused the BJP of severe fraudulent practices, such as ballot tampering, to rig the assembly polls in the state. has released CCTV footage alleging BJP leaders opened ballot boxes without party representatives present, branding it a “murder of democracy in broad daylight” after the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026.
Shared on its official X handle, the footage purportedly shows BJP officials accessing boxes sans oversight, prompting TMC accusations of collusion with the Election Commission to rig results. The party claims BJP resorted to “dirty tricks”—name deletions, voter intimidation, central force misuse and cash flooding—before this “desperate” move.
“We will not allow the Delhi zamindars and their puppet Election Commission to steal the mandate of the people,” TMC stated.
TMC leaders Shashi Panja and Kunal Ghosh protested outside the strong room at Netaji Indoor Stadium after being denied entry.
“You can watch in the livestream and CCTV cameras of the Election Commission that a few people are working inside. None of our representatives is inside… They are not letting us in. They are asking us to speak with other candidates. Why should we take responsibility for other candidates?” Ghosh said. “We are concerned. There should be no manipulation. Why are we not being shown all of that?” Panja demanded.
