Represntational.

Chennai: In the first Jallikattu event of the season, 74 people got injured after thousands gathered at Thatchankurichi village in Tamil Nadu's Pudukottai district on Sunday, IANS reported.

The bull-taming event featured Hundreds of bulls, brought to the village on mini freight carriers, and police troops were deployed to manage the crowd. The event, originally planned on January 6, was postponed for two days due to some security reasons.

The event witnessed 485 bulls being freed at the field one after the other. The tamers were to control them in a marked area filled with coir pith. Covid-19 protocols were followed as the tamers were made mandatory to submit an RT-PCR test report taken a day before the tournament.

Further, the bulls were subjected to dope tests before they were marched to the 'Vadivasal' or entry point to the ground. For the event, a 20-member medical team and a fleet of '108' Ambulances was deployed.

The Jallikattu was declared open by state Ministers S. Raghupathy and Siva V. Meyyanathan, with District Collector Kavitha Ramu administering the oath to the tamers and handing over t-shirts to them.
