New Delhi: Elon Musk's social media site X (previously Twitter) experienced a service outage on Wednesday, with reports peaking about 8:30 a.m.

According to the outage tracking platform Downdetector, roughly 40% of users reported app troubles, while 29% reported feed and timeline problems. Another 18 per cent reported website outages.

However, in the last 24 hours, this is the second outage, with users reporting issues on Tuesday evening.

Earlier in May this year, the platform had suffered a global outage, including in India, with users unable to load new posts or log into their accounts. Thousands of users struggled to access X’s webpages, while many also reported issues with the app and login page, IANS reported.

During that outage, 41 per cent of users said they were unable to log in, while an equal share reported problems with the X app.

In February, X also faced a global outage affecting users in India, the United States and the United Kingdom. At the time, more than 25,000 outage reports were logged, while 53 per cent of app users were unable to log in and 16 per cent of website users also reported issues.

In November last year, thousands of users of X also faced service disruption across India and globally, along with other websites that rely on Cloudflare’s internet infrastructure to remain online.

Earlier this month, Facebook and Instagram users globally also faced widespread service disruptions, with thousands reporting that the Meta-owned platforms were either not loading properly or failing to refresh content. The outage was not confined to a single region, with users across multiple countries reporting similar issues simultaneously.

Users across several cities in India reported difficulties accessing Facebook and Instagram, with many stating that feeds were not loading and apps were not refreshing content.
