Will detain those who come here illegally and remove them: UK PM, Rishi Sunak

New Delhi: British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has announced 'illegal migration bill' which seeks to stop illegal immigrants coming into the nation.

Rishi Sunak warned that those who enter UK illegally will not be allowed to claim asylum.

However, the opposition and rights groups came down heavily on Sunak’s new law, saying that it is unworkable and scapegoats ‘ vulnerable refugees’.

"If you come here illegally, you can't claim asylum. You can't benefit from our modern slavery protections. You can't make spurious human rights claims and you can't stay," Rishi Sunak reportedly tweeted.

Expanding on his plan to deal with the illegal migrants, Sunak said the government will detain illegal immigrants and remove them in weeks either to their own country if safe or to a safe third country like Rwanda.

Sunak gave the heads-up that those removed from UK will be banned forever from entering the country like in America and Australia.

The draft law will target those crossing the English Channel in small boats to reach the shores of UK.

The draft law will assign interior minister Suella Braverman the legal duty to deport all migrants entering illegally.

This will deprive the illegal migrants of their other rights in UK and European human rights law.

"The current situation is neither moral nor sustainable. It cannot go on," Rishi Sunak reportedly said.

Marking a 60 percent annual rise, more than 45,000 migrants arrived on the shores of southeast England on small boats last year.

The UK has already tried to deport asylum seekers to Rwanda. But it came to naught after an injunction from the European Court of Human Rights scuttled the plan.
