Kabul: The United Nations has warned, through a threat assessment, that the Taliban is running an intense 'door to door' search for people who worked with the United States and NATO forces, reports Al Jazeera.

The confidential report prepared by threat assessment consultants of the UN, Norwegian Center for Global Analyses (NCGA), said that the Taliban has a "priority list" of wanted people. The militants are threatening to kill or arrest the wanted's family if they are not going to surrender.

Christian Nellemann, the executive director of NCGA, told Agence France-Presse that the Taliban is targeting the families of the wanted and prosecuting and punishing them according to Sharia law. He said that people who worked for NATO/US and allied forces were expected to be tortured and executed. This will jeopardise western intelligence services and their ability to counter Taliban, ISIS and other terrorist threats, he added.

Taliban is checking people en route to Kabul airport. There are several checkpoints in major cities, including Kabul and Jalalabad.

Earlier, during the Afghan's Independence Day celebration, the Taliban opened fire at streets in Asadabad, where crowds gathered, and two people were reported killed.

But it is not sure whether the casualties were out of stampede or shooting. Militants also fired at people waving the Afghan flag in Jalalabad, wounding a man and a teenage boy.
