UK PM Boris Johnson faces new threat of confidence vote over lockdown parties

New Delhi: UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson is on a slippery slope as the threat of a confidence vote is staring up at him over the "partygate" scandal.
More than 25 Conservative lawmakers have called on Johnson to resign, Reuters report.
Ministers breaching the code in UK are normally expected to resign, according to a report in India Today.
Meanwhile, a further six criticised the PM for attending a birthday party in June 2020 when indoor socialising was banned as part of covid norms.
Reacting to growing number of lawmakers expressing little faith in his government, a former party leader said Johnson could be challenged next week.
Should Johnson lose the confidence vote being hatched now, Johnson will more likely get walking papers.
Johnson's ethics adviser compounded the pressure saying Johnson may have broken ministerial code.
The Conservative lawmaker John Stevenson is said to be "deeply disappointed" at ruling breaking parties.
Furthering cornering the Prime Minister, an official report last week found a series of illegal parties at Johnson's Downing Street office. The fresh findings raised a wave of calls for Johnson to step down.
Senior Conservative Party leader William Hague hinted at Johnson likely facing no confidence by the end of June.
He further said that Johnson was in real trouble and the party according to him was moving towards having a ballot.
At least 54 Conservative lawmakers have to formally request a confidence vote to the chairman of the party's 1922 Committee, according to the report.
The formal request would remain confidential with the chairman of the committee.
