Abu Dhabi: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Tuesday announced that President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has accepted the invitation from the United States to join the Board of Peace. The decision was conveyed by Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs.

“His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed emphasised that the UAE’s decision reflects the importance of fully implementing President Donald J. Trump’s 20-point peace plan for Gaza, which is critical for the realisation of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people. He reaffirmed the UAE’s confidence in President Trump’s leadership and commitment to global peace, exemplified by the historic Abraham Accords,” the UAE Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The statement added that the UAE is ready to contribute actively to the Board of Peace’s mission, supporting greater cooperation, stability, and prosperity for all.

Earlier, on Saturday, the UAE had welcomed the launch of the second phase of the Peace Plan and the formation of the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG), a temporary transitional body established under UN Security Council Resolution 2803.

Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, lauded the establishment of NCAG and the Board of Peace as important frameworks to consolidate stability and advance the political process. She also commended the leadership efforts of President Trump, as well as the contributions of Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey, in supporting the peace process and strengthening security in the region.

“The UAE believes that achieving lasting peace requires concerted international efforts and effective governance of the Gaza Strip, ensuring the legitimate rights and aspirations of the Palestinian people, contributing to stability, and supporting a more secure and prosperous future for the region,” Al Hashimy said.

Last week, US President Donald Trump announced the creation of the Board of Peace for Gaza as the peace deal, signed in October, enters its second phase, focusing on full demilitarisation and reconstruction. Several world leaders, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, have also received invitations to join the US-proposed board.
