Turkey will raise its minimum wage by 21.56 per cent gross and about 16 per cent net in 2021, for a monthly net wage of 2,825 Turkish lira ($376.71), the labour minister said on Monday.

Zehra Zumrut Selcuk, the current minister of Family, Labor and Social Services of Turkey whose announcement was broadcast on TV said the wage rise was seven percentage points higher than the November inflation rate.

The announcement came following Turkey's Minimum Wage Determination Commission's minimum wage talks for 2021 held on December 4,15 and 22 which unlike the previous years were held via the video conference due to the pandemic.

According to the estimations of the Confederation of Progressive Trade Unions of Turkey (DİSK), 10 million people in the 83-million country get a minimum wage or earn a monthly salary close to this amount.

The current net minimum wage in Turkey is 2,324.71 Turkish Lira (TRY), which is approximately 303 US dollars or 240 Euro. Turkey's central bank has an inflation forecast of 12.1 per cent for 2020 and 9.4 per cent for 2021.
